KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Bernama) — The local entertainment world has lost another veteran actress when Mahyon Ismail passed away at Ampang Puteri Hospital, here, at about 1pm after having breathing difficulty.She was 69. Mahyon or her real name, Mayayun Ismail, was admitted to the hospital’s intensive-care unit (ICU) at 11pm Friday.
Her granddaughter Natrah Yasmin, 27, who called Mahyon “mak” (mom), said her death was unexpected as Mahyon appeared to be in good health and was always cheerful.
“Yesterday, we had spent some time together shopping at a hypermarket and ‘mom’ was cheerful,” she said when met at Mahyon’s house in Gombak Setia, near here, Saturday.
However, she said, at about 10.30pm, the veteran actress complained of having breathing difficulty and was taken to Ampang Puteri Hospital.
Natrah said after given medicine, her grandmother’s condition improved for a while but she then went into a coma until the doctor confirmed that she had died this afternoon.
Mahyon, whose husband was the late veteran actor Hussein Abu Hasan, leaves three children and four grandchildren.
Her son Faizal is also an actor and daughter Dilla is a drama scriptwriter while another daughter Fairuz is a well-known R&B singer.
Mahyon was buried Saturday beside her husband’s grave at the Ibu Kota Muslim cemetery in Setapak, here.
